Most, if not all, the laws of the material universe, such as Newton’s laws of motion and universal gravitation, Einstein’s laws of relativity, Maxwell’s electromagnetic theory and Schrödinger’s quantum field theory can be derived from the Principle of Least Action. This principle describes how Natural Light behaves: it always moves to its destination in the least amount of time. The reason natural Light is able to behave this way is because it is omnipresent. But, more than 200 years ago, the scientist, Emanuel Swedenborg also discovered that this action or motion of natural Light is in correspondence with the spiritual action or e-motion of Divine Love or God’s substance.
Hence, the parts of the universe were generated from the wholeness of natural light in correspondence with spiritual Light or Love. Every being in the universe involved from Love and is re-turning or evolving to Love. The Electro-magnetic field of natural Light must be invisibly linked or in correspondence with the higher-dimensional field of spiritual Light or Wisdom-Love. The three lower dimensions of material existence or outer space correspond to the three higher dimensions of inner state. These inner dimensions are Actuality, Possibility and Reality.
God’s substance is Divine Love. And God’s spiritual form is Divine Truth. God realizes His substance by generating beings that can freely reciprocate Love. The purpose of the universe is to create free and loving angels from the human race. Thus man is the harmonic reflection or image of the Infinite or God.
Love is spiritual freedom. And man has been endowed with understanding and will so that he can understand Truth and freely and willingly reciprocate Love. This means that man also has the freedom to reject God’s Love and remain in self-love, self-intelligence, egoism, ignorance and suffering.
The truth is that it is impossible to love yourself. If it were possible, God would not need to create the universe and other beings from His own substance. True Love must be directed at someone that is other than our own self. Self-love is egoism or selfishness. When we love God and our neighbor, we are in Truth but, when we are in self-love, we must justify our beliefs and behavior by means of falsehoods and lies.
The universe is a universe of uses. We put Love into effect by being useful to others and God. This is how we generate eternal joy within our own being and this joy returns to God as Love. As we harmonize with Love and Truth, we construct a spiritual body of real substance that can subsist in the eternal spiritual fields of Heaven.
God is Love. God’s creating universe is founded on Love. It is creating with Light. The principle of love is desire to give. God gives love by extending His Light. God’s love is a mirror of Light which reflects His giving of love by the regiving of love. The law of love is rhythmic balanced interchange between all givings and regivings…. God’s Love is everywhere; His Light is everywhere. There is naught but good in God’s omniscient universe. Evil is a product of man’s thinking. (Walter Russell)
The universe in greatest and least things, and in first and last things is so filled with Divine Love and Wisdom that it may be said to be Divine Love and Wisdom in an image. That this is so is clearly evident from the correspondence of all things of the universe with all things of man. Each and every thing which exists in the created universe has such a correspondence with each and every thing of man, that it may be said that man also is a kind of universe. There is a correspondence of his affections and hence of his thoughts with all things of the animal kingdom; of his will and hence of his understanding with all things of the vegetable kingdom; and of his ultimate life with all things of the mineral kingdom.
